GEORGE TOWN, Sept 2 ― Hundreds were stranded on the road, here,  following heavy rain early today, causing massive traffic jams due to flash floods.

The downpour which started about 3am caused a massive flash flood in Jalan Mayang Pasir, the worst hit area, where the water level reportedly reached above-knee level.

The flood waters subsided about 8.30am when the rain stopped.

Flash floods also occurred in several other areas including Bandar Baru Air Itam and Paya Terubong, causing drains to overflow.

People vented their frustration as flash floods have been occurring practically each time when there was a downpour.

Among them was Nur Azura Ahmad, a Pantai Hospital nurse living in Paya Terubong, who said she had to brace not one but several areas that were inundated by flood waters to reach her workplace in Bayan Baru.

"I hope the state government would do something to solve the flood problem, instead of continuously cutting the hills for mega projects,” she said. ― Bernama
