KANGAR, Aug 28 ― The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained an immigration officer at the Home Ministry Complex here on Friday for allegedly asking for a RM8,000 bribe from a contractor. 

Perlis MACC director Yaacop Angah, in a statement today, said the suspect, in his 30s, had allegedly asked for the money so that some 30 foreign construction workers in Kampung Wai, Kuala Prelis would not be arrested.  

He said the suspect was picked up on the same day the contractor lodged a complaint.         

Yaacop said the MACC had also detained a technician, in his 30s, of a factory in the state who is believed to be his accomplice. 

The duo had been remanded for three days since yesterday, he said. ― Bernama
