KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong will hold a closed-door meeting with Penang party leaders to resolve an internal party crisis brewing in the state.
Mah said he would be heading to the state in a fortnight to listen to grievances and problems faced by Penang party leaders recently.
"In the meeting, they can discuss and voice their feelings so that a consensus can be reached to settle issues (arising out of the crisis),” he said after opening the 2016 Federal Territory Gerakan State Liaison, Youth and Wanita annual delegates conference at Menara PGRM here today.
He was commenting on the move by party deputy secretary-general, Dr Thor Teong Gee who resigned from all party posts on Thursday after claiming his reputation was smeared following an internal strife for the Sungai Pinang division coordinator post, as well as being candidate for the coming general election.
Following that, Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong denied he wanted to take over the Sungai Pinang division coordinator post and had no intention to undermine Dr Thor’s reputation.
Mah also confirmed he had received a message from Dr Thor on the resignation and advised him to remain calm and pledged to meet him as soon as possible.
He also advised both parties to henceforth, cease issuing any media statement on the party’s internal issues.
"Revealing our internal party issues to the outside is akin to committing suicide. So, stop it,” he said. — Bernama
