GEORGE TOWN, Aug 15 — Some 15,000 consumers in the south of Penang Island will experience a 10-hour water supply interruption from 10pm this Saturday to 8am the next day.

Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) issued a brief statement announcing the scheduled water disruption due to water pipe connection works along Lebuh Sungai Ara 1, Jalan Bayan Lepas and Jalan Permatang Damar Laut.

The pipe connection works were to improve water supply and to meet future water demand in Bayan Lepas, Teluk Kumbar, Gertak Sanggul and Balik Pulau.

When completed, the upgrade will benefit about 30,000 registered water consumers, the firm said.

The works, at four locations, will be carried out simultaneously to ensure minimal disruptions.

The areas affected are from Sungai Tiram to Bayan Lepas town, the Penang International Airport, Simpang Permatang Damar Laut to Kampung Seronok, and Simpang Permatang Damar Laut to Teluk Kumbar and Gertak Sanggul.

PBAPP stressed that they have coordinated with the airport authorities on the disruption to ensure that it does not affect flights and services.

Water supply to Bayan Lepas Free Trade Zone will not be affected, but motorists were told to be careful when using Lebuh Sungai Ara 1, Jalan Bayan Lepas and Jalan Permatang Damar Laut during the period when works are underway.
