SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — The Selangor government’s refusal to sign the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act (Act 672), is among the causes of garbage problem in the state.

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said the PKR-led Selangor government failed to resolve the issue despite ruling the state since 2008.

"Garbage and solid waste management in Selangor was undertaken by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd until after the 2008 general election, when the Selangor government refused to sign Act 672 and took over the job from the company.

"However, the garbage problem in Selangor has not been resolved leading to numerous complaints from residents who are dissatisfied with the state government’s commitment,” he told reporters, here today.

Noh said this when asked to comment on complaints by residents of Kota Damansara who are unhappy with Petaling Jaya City Council (MPPJ) for failing to ensure regular garbage collection. — Bernama
