Father of four charged with human trafficking

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — A father of four was charged in the Sessions court here today with nine counts of human trafficking involving nine Indonesian women including a 17-year-old teenager, last May.

Chang Kar Fei, 34, who is unemployed, claimed trial to committing the offences at Blok 5-9-12, Kondo Seri Emas, Pearl Tower off Batu 3 ½ here, at 3.45am on May 3.

He allegedly trafficked for exploitation, the teenager and eight others, Nofia Apriyani, 19; Kamila Juliana, 21; Antini Vina Sariniawati, 21; Rika Aprilia, 21; Sulastri Agustina, 19; Sri Suarti, 22; Imroah, 21 and Nova Valencia, 21.

For the charge involving the teenager, he faces imprisonment of up to 20 years and liable to a fine if found guilty, under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, 2007.

For the eight charges, he faces 15 years imprisonment or a fine, each, if found guilty under Section 12 of the same Act.

Judge Allaudeen Ismail set RM10,000 as bail with one surety and August 12 for trial.

Deputy public prosecutor Najwa Bistamam appeared for the prosecution while counsel Khairul Amin Abdullah represented the accused. — Bernama
