SUBANG JAYA, Aug 8 — A pregnant woman, her husband and their visiting Indonesian friend were killed instantly after their car plunged into a monsoon drain along the Damansara-Puchong (LDP) highway at Taman Puchong Utama yesterday.

The 21-year-old woman, an Indonesian national known only as Neng from Medan, who was in the front seat, was six months pregnant.

Her 42-year-old Malaysian husband, known only as Azni and believed to be a government servant, was driving the Honda HR-V when he lost control of the vehicle.

The car rammed into a signboard, broke through the iron railing and hurtled 4m into the drain.

The couple and the 20-year-old Indonesian national from Bengkulu, Sumatra, known only as Lensi, were thrown out of the car in the 10am incident. 

It is learnt that Lensi was here to visit her husband who works as a factory worker in Puchong.

Subang Jaya deputy police chief Supt Lee Swee Meng said the case had been classified as causing death by dangerous or reckless driving.

He said the bodies had been sent to Serdang Hospital for post-mortem.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Sani Harul said an ambulance team from the hospital declared the victims dead soon after arrival.

A crowd gathered at the scene as policemen collected the victims’ personal items from the mangled car, which was towed out about three hours later.

Friends of the victims were at the hospital to comfort Lensi’s husband, known only as Nurul.
