SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said a proposal to introduce the cross-cultural module as a subject in all schools nationwide will be submitted to the Cabinet.

He said this was important to nurture the spirit of unity, national integration and patriotism among the people of various races, especially the younger generation.

"Without education patterned on diversity and cross-culture, students will most likely not recognise their own identity as well as the needs of their other ethnic friends and indirectly cause racial issues at school.

"I will present this proposal (cross cultural module as a subject) at the cabinet meeting on Monday (Aug 8). We will work out the details of the module later,” he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the Rukun Negara Club Cross-Cultural Camp 2016 at Camp Bumi Jati here today.

The four-day camp participated by 200 teachers and students of different races from 22 selected schools across the country began on Aug 1.

The programme organised by the Department of National Unity and Integration also received support from the Ministry of Education and Universiti Putra Malaysia. — Bernama
