PETALING JAYA, July 19 — PKR does not yet see the necessity to hold an early state election in Penang, president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said tonight.

Speaking to reporters after a PKR politburo meeting at the party headquarters here, she said, however, that her party was not entirely closed to the notion.

"We believe we are yet to be convinced of the goal or objective of holding the elections.

"We are prepared to continue discussions with Pakatan Harapan component parties on this matter,” she added.

On July 11, sources told Malay Mail Online that Penang leaders were looking to have snap polls in the state to gauge public sentiment after DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was charged with corruption.

Lim was charged with abuse of power and corruption at the Penang High Court last month over the alleged approval of a rezoning application by Magnificent Emblem to convert agricultural land to residential and over his purchase of his RM2.8 million house from businesswoman Phang Li Koon at below market value of RM4.27 million.

Lim, who is Penang chief minister, was expected to attend the PKR meeting tonight, but did not appear.

No DAP representatives attended tonight and Dr Wan Azizah’s deputy, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that discussions will take place among Pakatan Harapan leaders in the near future.
