KUCHING, July 16 ― Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri today told concerned Sarawakians that she is still the minister in charge of negotiation on the devolution of power from Putrajaya to Sarawak, despite being no longer being in charge of Legal Affairs.

"You see, I am still the minister in charge and that the Federal Cabinet and the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) have not made any decision about any termination or something like that,” she told reporters at her Hari Raya Open House at the Old Sarawak State Assembly Building here .

She said both she and Foreign Minister Sabahan Datuk Seri Anifah Aman are still co-chairing a high level technical committee which has been tasked with identifying issues of non-compliance from the context of Inter-Governmental Committee Report (IGC), Malaysia Agreement 1963, Malaysia Act, Federal Constitution and other written report or document such as Cobbold Commission Report and to provide recommendation and solution for the consideration of the Federal Government.

In a Federal Cabinet reshuffle announced by the prime minister last month, Nancy now oversees the Malaysian Innovation Agency, Malaysian Nuclear Power Corporation and Malaysian Industry Government Group for High Technology.

She is also responsible for the Public Land Transport Commission and Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Sarawak and CVLB Sabah.

Her old portfolio of overseeing legal matters has been transferred to Datuk Azalina Othman Said.

Nancy, who is also Batang Sadong federal lawmaker, said there is no need for anyone from Sarawak to be upset with her no longer overseeing law at the Federal Cabinet level.

"I am aware of the concerns of Sarawakians, including from the opposition parties, about me no longer the law minister, but I must tell them that my transfer to another portfolio will not affect the negotiation on the devolution of power,” she said, adding that the transfer is not a demotion for her.

"But I must say that Sarawak is well-prepared for the things they have presented to the Federal Government on the devolution of power matters,” Nancy said.

On moving to the new portfolio, she also said that she has longed been wishing to look after something else, instead of overseeing law since after the 2013 general elections.

"Why other people go to other ministries, but not me? Let's move forward,” she said.

A Federal Cabinet reshuffle had taken place on June 27, Umno’s sacking of former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir who had been openly attacking the prime minister over 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and related issues.

Prime Minister Najib had mentioned during the reshuffle that there would be a change in portfolios for ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department as well.
