HULU TERENGGANU, July 16 — The Communication and Multimedia Ministry will collaborate with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) in providing a more comprehensive explanation on the threats of IS militants to the people in the country.

Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said it was part of the moves to curb the propaganda of IS militants and hence, curb the spread of the threats among the public.

"We will work with Jakim by helping them to produce flyers or articles or capsules on the true meaning of jihad and war in Islam, so that we can broadcast it on any of our television channels.

"Right now, there is no proper medium that provides explanation against IS...and the public, especially the young generation, tend to find more information on this issue on the Internet, which could be misleading and confusing,” he told reporters at Hulu Terengganu Parliamentary Constituency Aidilfitri Open House here today.

Jailani said through the cooperation, the ministry hoped that specific programmes could also be organised or experts be invited to provide comprehensive explanation on the issue.

Jailani said the ministry, through the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), would also continue to monitor IS movement in the social media.

"We are still monitoring their activities because we believe the threats still exist (in the country).

"Under the 1Malaysia Community programme, we will try to reach out to the people on the ground, both in urban and rural areas, to help provide them with greater understanding on the issue,” he added. — Bernama
