KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim has urged Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming to tender an open apology over his alleged Facebook post insulting the Aidilfitri celebration.

He said as a member of Parliament and a Malaysian, Nga must embrace the fifth principle of Rukun Negara, that is mutual respect and morality.

"Insulting the Aidilfitri celebration only indicates the uncivilised attitude and it is really unacceptable by Muslims in the country.

"The reaction from the Federal Territory Umno Youth, the Selangor Umno Youth as well as Gerakan Merah movement urging the Taiping member of Parliament to tender an open apology is a very fair move to bring awareness to him to be more respectful of other people’s religions and cultures,” he said in a statement here today.

On July 6, Nga uploaded two images which likened Hari Raya charity to bribes and ‘dedak’ (animal feed), in addition to wishing Selamat Hari Raya with a background depicting an American flag with hands raised in prayer in the image of a beacon, a symbol of the Christian faith.

In Ipoh, Perak MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said as a political leader, Nga should be responsible for whatever he had done.

"Every human being has some flaws, it is nothing wrong to apologise if you have done something wrong,” he told reporters at an Aidilfitri open house organised by the Perak Public Works Department, here today.

Dr Mah said Nga’s action could trigger anger and cause disagreement between many quarters as it had insulted the Muslim community in this country. — Bernama
