KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — The Islamic State’s (IS) official website for its Malay language publication Al Fatihin has been blocked, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said today.
He also confirmed Al Fatihin’s Facebook page has been blocked as well, just a day after the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) blocked access to the terrorist group’s Twitter account for the same publication.
"Necessary actions on Twitter, Facebook and the Al Fatihin website have been taken,” he was reported saying by The New Straits Times today.
"MCMC will continuously work with all government agencies, such as the police, Home Ministry and the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to curb the spread of the IS ideology in the country,” the minister added.
Al Fatihin, the Malay language publication by IS, was launched in southern Philippines on June 20, and is being distributed in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, southern Thailand, as well as southern Philippines itself.
The 20-page edition focused on the month of Ramadan and the act of jihad or "holy struggle”, with a three-page message from Egyptian ideologue Abu Hamzah al-Muhajir, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, calling on IS fighters to "continue their jihadist activities, search for martyrdom and kill and crucify the polytheists, disbelievers, oppressors and transgressors”. On Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi said that while the government has not received any print edition of the paper, it is monitoring parties who download or print the publication.
