KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 ― A man and a woman have been arrested for attempting to enter the national police headquarters at Bukit Aman armed with firecrackers, Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah said today.

However, Zainol added that police did not view the incident that took place about 10pm yesterday as being linked to terror attacks by any militant group.

He said the couple were in a car and sought entry into the police compound, with the man claiming to be a police officer.

"Initial checks showed that the man was not a police officer. Further checks also revealed there were seven firecrackers in his bag,” Zainol said in a statement.

He said the couple, both in their 30s, later tested positive for drugs via a urine test.

"Investigations showed that both of them were under the influence of drugs and have no links with any terror threats,” he said.

Both of them have been remanded for three days beginning today until July 15, under Section  448 and 511 of the Penal Code, Section 8 of the Explosives Act, and also Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

In a video released last month, militant group Islamic State warned that Bukit Aman would be one of their targets of attack in Malaysia.

On June 28, a hand grenade attack at nightclub in Puchong which injured eight people was later confirmed to be the work of the terror group.
