KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — DAP lawmaker Nga Kor Ming said today that he would lodge a police report on what he claimed was a smear campaign, after Umno rallied outside the DAP headquarters here against his alleged Facebook post insulting Muslims.

Nga again denied uploading on his Facebook account a caricature on the Muslim practice of giving out cash during the Hari Raya celebration in the form of "duit raya” and "dedak”, a euphemism for chicken feed which is used derogatorily to describe corrupt cash handouts.

"It’s a dirty smear campaign,” Nga said in a statement.

"Seeing that it is the holy Syawal month, I don’t plan to take any stern action, but things got worse when extremists held an illegal rally to fan the flames of the allegations and defamatory words against me. Therefore, I will make a police report on the smear campaign as soon as possible to protect the harmony of our beloved society,” the Perak DAP chairman added.

Some 150 Umno members and supporters held an unruly rally at the DAP’s national headquarters here earlier today to protest against Nga and the opposition party, with riot police having to hold back the demonstrators.

Protesters from the Malay ruling party threw "hell notes” — used traditionally at Chinese funerals — at the DAP representative who accepted their memorandum and said they wanted the opposition party "to die”.
