GEORGE TOWN — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng still enjoys wide support in his Air Putih state constituency despite being charged with two counts of corruption.
A random check by Malay Mail showed residents still held him in high esteem.
Real estate agent Lok Kok Hooi, 37, felt the state had seen considerable development under Lim's watch.
"We have achieved world recognition as one of the best places to retire and also among the best places to visit,” Lok said.

"There is no reason for the chief minister to step down or take leave just because he has been charged with corruption,” he said.
Food stall operator S. Deva, 38, said Lim should he allowed to continue as chief minister due to his track record.
"Let the courts decide based on the facts of the case,” he said.
Businessman Hong Kian Beng, 57, said Lim should be allowed to continue with the good job he has been doing.
"There has been a lot of improvement in infrastructure and public facilities. There is no reason for him not to continue serving the people,” Hong said.
His sentiment was shared by Lee Boon Yen, 65, who does not want Lim replaced.
"From what I see, there has been a lot of positive feedback from the people on his leadership,” Lee said.
Another food stall operator, K. Vijaya, 52, said she had no complaints on the social and economic situation in Penang.
"Although I am not involved in politics, I keep abreast of current affairs and developments through the newspapers,” she said.
She also said Lim did not have to step down, adding she admired him for his "courage and sacrifice”.
Tan Ah Kek, 42, a self-employed businessman, felt everyone should provide Lim with moral support.
"All of us must show our support during this crucial time,” he said.
