KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Police today fatally shot the suspect from the shooting incident at Batu Caves last week, at USJ 11 in Subang Jaya today.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said that the man, who had an extensive criminal record, drew a gun when police moved towards his vehicle.

"The victim was in a car and when police approached, he maybe thought it was an ambush,” Abdul Rahim said in a phone interview with Malay Mail Online.

"Three shots were fired. The car was also reported stolen on June 12 in Kepong,” he said, adding that the incident took place at 12.10pm earlier today, adding that police acted in self-defence.

He explained that police were called to the scene by a resident who was suspicious of the victim, who had been in his car for an unusual time.

The Selangor deputy police chief also said that the victim was involved in 12 robbery cases and five drug offences, among others.

On June 21, Gombak Police chief ACP Ali Ahmad said that two motorists were shot as they waited for the lights at the intersection of the main road with Sunway Batu Caves.

The duo, aged 30 and 34, were injured in the cheeks and head.

"Actually, the two Indian men threatened this Chinese man but they also know that the Chinese man is a criminal himself,” Abdul Rahim explained today.

"Yes, revenge is likely,” he said when asked for the motive of last week’s crime.

He added that the investigation is still ongoing.
