KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — The alleged extortion case against anti-crime crusader Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan seems to have opened a can of worms as more police reports claiming blackmail have been lodged against him.

Yesterday, Malay Mail Afternoon E-Paper quoted Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar as saying three businessmen had come forward following a request by police.

On Wednesday, Sanjeevan, 32, who is Malaysian Crime Watch (MyWatch) chairman, was arrested following an allegation that he had demanded RM25,000 from an illegal gambling den operator.

He was arrested at the Nilai toll plaza with his 26-year-old-driver, an Indian national.

The complainant, who has been placed under witness protection, told police that Sanjeevan had been "collecting” from him for several months.

The latest controversy surrounding Sanjeevan comes almost a week after he was found in a room at a four-star hotel in Seremban that had a connecting door to the room next to it.

That room was occupied by a woman police inspector whom he was alleged to have been meeting.

Sanjeevan captured national attention when he escaped death after he was shot by an unidentified individual in Bahau in July 2013.

He was in a coma for more than 30 days and was discharged from hospital in September that year.

Separately, on an Islamic State (IS) video in which the militant group threatened to "slaughter” policemen here, Khalid said police were unfazed by it.

"We are too old for this kind of ‘warning’. We are a 209-year-old organisation and will not entertain such long-distance threats.”

The video featured one Mohd Rafi Udin from Negri Sembilan and two other "IS fighters” warning of attacks on civilians and Bukit Aman.

Rafi, who apparently left Malaysia in 2014 to join the terrorist group in Syria, was seen in the video urging local IS supporters to use whatever means to kill "non-believers”.
