JERAM, June 22 — Visitors both local and foreign have been drawn to a ‘secret island’ that reveals itself in the Straits of Malacca only twice a month: During the new moon and full moon.

At those times, the unnamed island is accessible by a 30-minute boat ride from the fishing village of Jeram, Selangor.

Some call it Malaysia’s own Uyuni salt flats, the natural wonder in Bolivia famed for its mirror-like reflection of the sky.

Besides picture-perfect scenery, the island is also home to a multitude of marine organisms.

So should you decide to venture there, remember to take only photographs, and leave only footprints.
