KUCHING, June 21 ― Sarawak police have confirmed the death of PKR’s electoral candidate Bill Kayong and classified his shooting this morning as murder.
Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Dev Kumar also appealed today for witnesses at the scene to step forward.
“We want them to come forward and help in the police investigation,” he said in a statement.
“We give assurance that we will conduct our investigations into this murder thoroughly and will no leave no stone unturned,” he said.
He urged the public to avoid speculation on the motive for the shooting.
The senior policeman said Kayong, 43, was shot dead by an unknown person using a shotgun while he was waiting in his Toyota Hilux at a traffic light intersection in Lutong, Miri abt about 8.30am.
The police believe Kayong was travelling from his home in Senadin to his office in Permyjaya, Miri when the incident happened.
The police are investigating the killing under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
