The accused who wore a short, thigh-level gown with black, woolly handbag, was charged under the National Registration Regulations 1990 which provides for jail sentence up to three years or a fine up to RM20,000.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin urged the court to impose a heavy sentence to serve as a lesson to the accused.

Mohamad Dahalan, who was not represented by a counsel, appealed for a lenient sentence as he was just released from jail for a drug offence and also suffered from tuberculosis. — Bernama
