KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Police will interview additional witnesses from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) over educational slides that drew outrage from Hindus and other religious communities.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said several reports have been lodged over the leaked material from the university's Islamic and Asian Civilisation Studies (TITAS) module.

"Investigations are ongoing. We have called a few, we will be calling more people for their statements to be recorded. Let us conduct the investigation first," he said after an event at the Bukit Aman police headquarters today.

The slides had, among others, purported that Hindus revered dirt on their bodies and that Sikhism appropriated elements from Islam.

UTM has apologised for the slides, but insisted that the incident was isolated and not reflective of the TITAS subject.

The TITAS module was made mandatory for all tertiary students regardless of religion in 2013.

Complainants including the MIC have variously demanded punitive action against the creator of the slides, including for the person to be investigated for sedition.
