JOHOR BARU, June 7 — Heavy rain and strong winds lashed the city this afternoon, uprooting about 30 trees and causing trees to crash onto four houses.
During the incident between 3.45pm and 4.15pm, the roofs of some houses were blown away as well.
Johor Baru City Council member Nor Azhar Abdul Hamid said the affected areas included Kampung Kangkar Tebrau, Taman Bunga Ros, Taman Delima and Taman Daya.
He said a tree fell on a house in Kampung Kangkar Tebrau, causing the family of four to take shelter at a relative’s house.
“In Taman Delima, were received three reports of trees crashing onto houses, but no one was injured,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
Nor Azhar said the council instructed between 30 and 40 contract workers to chop the trees and clean up the debris.
The Fire and Rescue Department, Department of Civil Defence and several agencies were also involved in the clean-up process, he said.
Nor Azhar said the council had also informed the Social Welfare Department and the relevant MP to provide immediate aid to the victims tomorrow. — Bernama
