KUALA KANGSAR, June 3 ― "Insya Allah, my mother will continue with my father's struggle for Barisan Nasional."

These were the words frequently heard spoken by Wan Emir Astar, 26, the son of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datin Mastura Abd Yazid in the Kuala Kangsar Parliamentary by-election, when meeting residents in the constituency.

The young man is taking the heavy responsibility as his mother is still mourning following the death of his father Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5.

Despite being sad over his loss, Wan Emir still managed a smile in the hectic campaign round.

Wan Emir and his three younger brothers Wan Imar Izzat, 25, Wan Iskandar, 23, and Wan Muhammad Amar, 19, were clearly at ease in their public interaction with the people.

Villagers met by Bernama also expressed their sympathy for the four men apart from giving words of encouragement and support to their mother to continue the struggle for the people in the constituency.

Meanwhile, Bukit Chandan state assemblyman, Maslin Sham Razman and Manong state assemblyman, Kamil Shafie when met by Bernama said they were confident the voters would continue supporting the struggle of the late MP's sons in the development agenda of the area.

Maslin Sham said BN's machinery had no problem in the campaign even though Mastura could not be present.

"The presence of Datin Mastura's children to represent their mother was good enough. They are also familar with residents and politics here," he said.

Meanwhile Umno Youth vice head Khairul Azwan Harun said Umno Youth would continue to assist Mastura's children in the by-election campaign especially in warding off various accusations disseminated via social media against their mother.

The Election Commission had set the Kuala Kangsar by-election on June 18 while the nomination of candidate would be held this Sunday. ― Bernama
