KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — The National Consultative Committee on Political Funding will submit its proposed plan to Putrajaya by the end of August.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan said the plan will be sent to the Cabinet before it is tabled in Parliament.
"The plan comprises the laws required, rules and supporting institutions to administer and to oversee a political funding mechanism that is transparent and with integrity," he said in a written reply to Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping).
The council will also seek political parties’ views on the matter before submitting the plan, Low added.
The committee was formed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak last August following reports that RM2.6 billion was deposited in his private accounts.
Najib explained that the money was a political donation, but said a more transparent system should be put in place to prevent such confusion in the future.
