PETALING JAYA, May 25 — The alignment for the proposed Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD) has yet to be finalised, said those in the know of the new expressway project.

A source from PJD Link (M) Sdn Bhd told Malay Mail the firm was merely in the midst of conducting market research to obtain feedback from residents and stakeholders.

He said this would help the firm adjust the alignment to meet the needs of  communities and stakeholder needs.

“The market research started last week. There is a slight error on the phamplet ... the expressway has not been awarded to any concessionaire,” he said.

“We are merely in the research stage, so the stakeholders should not be alarmed as a market research is usually conducted prior the construction of any project to evaluate and understand their needs.”

He said the research will continue until the middle of next month.

“The current alignment is not finalised ... it is subject to change.”

Another insider revealed there will not be any “major acquisitions” should the project take off.

“Residents should not worry about any land or home acquisition. The proposed alignment has reduced the need to do so.”

He added the project has been in the works “for the past three years”.

“The expressway is necessary to help ease traffic congestion. The number of vehicles on the roads continue to rise.”

The source said the proposed dual carriage elevated expressway would be between 14km and 15km long, with 10 entry and exit ramps.

He added the project would cost more than the controversial RM2.42 billion Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) due to the “depreciating ringgit and inflation”.

“The project would cost up to RM3 billion, taking into consideration the Goods and Services Tax, weakening ringgit and market trends.”

He said the expressway would take four years to complete.
