KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — The Tourism Malaysia board will examine allegations of an outburst by its chairman over AirAsia promotional material at its Beijing expo booth last week, said Datuk Nazri Aziz today.
The tourism and culture minister said the board will meet on May 30 to deliberate the reports of Wee Choo Keong’s alleged behaviour.
“I look at what happened in Beijing seriously, because China is an important country that we are targeting for tourist arrivals,” he said in answer to Anthony Loke (DAP-Seremban).
“AirAsia is also a good strategic partner for us and have cooperated with Tourism Malaysia very well,” he added.
Nazri said the board had also been asked to inform him once they have made a decision on the matter. Wee, a former Wangsa Maju MP with PKR, is said to have a long standing issue with AirAsia and has consistently criticised the airline in the past. Air Asia CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said Wee went "overboard" with his outburst at the expo, during which he allegedly scolded Tourism Malaysia's staff for the presence of the airline's banner.
