PUTRAJAYA, May 24 ― The Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs) used to screen people entering and exiting the country may have been sabotaged, Immigration director-general (D-G) Datuk Sakib Kusmi agreed today.

Sakib concurred with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's assessment yesterday that acts of sabotage were believed to have been carried out on the online immigration system.

“Actually, what was mentioned by the TPM has some truth, because that is one of the factors causing the myIMMs system to be frequently disrupted and to face problems of efficiency.

“So, sabotage is one of the factors that we can further scrutinise and we are currently continuing investigations to determine who is involved and we will make a joint announcement with the police when the time comes,” he told reporters here.

Sakib said none has been called up for the investigation yet, but said interviews will be done during the course of the inquiry.

“We see that it's not just Immigration officers, but those from outside, including possibly vendors and possibly foreigners who are involved,” he added.

Sakib was speaking at the sidelines of the government's session with the media following last week's release of the Auditor-General's (A-G) Report 2015 Series 1.

Among various weaknesses named in the report, it was found that the Immigration Department had fully paid RM10.3 million for biometric system and equipment that was not installed or used, while data under myIMMs was inaccurate.
