KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — AirAsia chief executive Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said today Tourism Malaysia chairman Wee Choo Keong had gone “over the top” by allegedly berating staff and breaking an AirAsia bunting at a tourism expo in Beijing.

The budget carrier’s owner said Wee had tormented AirAsia for “many, many years”, expressing puzzlement over the Tourism Malaysia chairman’s behaviour.

“Invited him many times to visit Airasia Allstars. But this is over the top,” Fernandes wrote on his Facebook page.

“AirAsia brings in the most Chinese tourists. You be the judge of what's right and what's wrong,” the airline tycoon added.

Wee allegedly lashed out at his staff last Friday during the 4th China (Beijing) International Tourism Expo 2016 after seeing that an AirAsia bunting was put up alongside other promotional materials at Tourism Malaysia’s booth.

The former MP also allegedly broke the bunting before telling his staff to remove all items associated with AirAsia.

Malay Mail Online is awaiting responses from Wee and Tourism Malaysia regarding the alleged incident.

Wee has in the past openly attacked AirAsia over its alleged airport tax debt of more than RM50 million.

In July last year, AirAsia Berhad filed a defamation suit against Wee over his blog post on the issue, also accusing him of regularly publishing many false and disparaging statement in its blog www.weechookeong.com.
