KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 ― The firearms company owned by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar's daughter has not been awarded any government contracts, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said in a written parliamentary reply that Nilai Arms and Ammunitions Sdn Bhd does not have any deal to supply weapons to any government enforcement agency.

“Nilai Arms and Ammunitions company did not get any contracts to supply firearms to any enforcement agency under the Home Ministry,” he said in the reply.

Ahmad Zahid was responding to a question from DAP's Seremban MP Anthony Loke, who had asked if the company had been awarded contracts from Putrajaya to supply weapons to government enforcement agencies.

Sarawak Report revealed in its report last month a purported screen capture of the company records for Nilai Arms & Ammunitions that shows the majority of shares belonging to someone named Juwiza Khalid, while the minority shares are held by a man named Mohd Isa Hussin that the news portal claimed was Khalid’s brother-in-law.

According to Nilai Arms & Ammunitions’ website, the company is based in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.

Gun ownership is strictly regulated in Malaysia. Section 4(1) of the Arms Act 1960 states that applications for a firearms licence or permit must be made to the chief police officer of the state in which the applicant resides.

Khalid last month denied there was a conflict of interest between his position and daughter’s firm, saying Juwiza started her company before he became IGP.

He added that he prohibited the firm from applying for government tenders.
