IPOH, May 16 ― The water level at the Bikut Merah Dam is now at the alert level and is still well below the flood danger level, said the State Exco Member for Public Utilities, Energy and Water Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin.

He said the current level at the retention pond today was 7.8 metres (25.6 feet), which was still far below the flood danger level at 9.14 metres (30 feet).

“In fact, the water level at the dam had yet to reach the normal level which is 8.69 metres (28.5 feet).

“I hope the people living in the surrounding areas will not worry about the rising water level at the Bukit Merah Dam,” he told Bernama, here today.

He said the rise in the water level at the dam was caused by the rain at several observation stations in the water catchment area including Batu 14 Sungai Kurau, Pondok Tanjung, Bukit Merah, Kampung Sempeneh and Kampung Sungai Besar. ― Bernama
