KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 ― The Save Malaysia movement has only managed to collect half of its targeted one million signatures calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down.

Its secretariat member Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar said the Citizens’ Declaration campaign has garnered just a little over 500,000 signatures to date, Sinar Harian reported today.

“The declaration forms are being collected and processed. We have over 500,000 signatures now,” he was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.

The initial plan for the group comprising leaders from civil society, the opposition and the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN), was to collect one million signatures to be handed to state sultans attending the two-day Conference of Rulers meeting starting today.

However, Kamaruddin refused to state whether or not the group will still submit the signatures for the declaration if it fails to reach its target.

He said that the effort to collect signatures will continue if it does not hit one million at the targeted date.

Previously, Kamaruddin claimed that many people who support the declaration are hesitant to list down their identification card numbers to sign on it.
