PETALING JAYA, May 11 — Pakatan Harapan’s presidential council said today the pact needs to regroup and refocus its energies for the 14th general election expected in two years, following its poor performance in last week’s Sarawak polls.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said all three member parties were currently conducting their individual post-mortem on Sarawak and the presidential council will meet again soon to discuss their findings.

“We have decided that an honest evaluation needs to be conducted. On this matter, all three parties in Pakatan Harapan have begun post-mortems on the party level,” she told reporters here after the council’s meeting.

“The presidential council will meet again soonest to identify the mistakes and overcome our shortcomings, and take the necessary steps to correct and fix our organisational problems and strategy specifically to face the bigger stage of the 14th general election.”

Dr Wan Azizah also said the opposition bloc admits to its weaknesses in the Sarawak elections, which is believed to have impacted public confidence in Pakatan Harapan.

A breakdown in seat negotiations ahead of the 11th Sarawak elections saw PKR and DAP clash in six seats.

Both parties fared poorly in the polls, with the DAP only winning in seven of the 31 seats it contested, five fewer than the 12 it won during the last state election in 2011.

PKR went home with the same three seats it won in 2011 while Pakatan Harapan ally Parti Amanah Negara failed to win a single seat.
