KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 — Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof attributed Barisan Nasional’s (BN) sweeping victory in the Sarawak election last Saturday to its efforts in reaching out to Sarawak voters.

Fadillah, who is also the state BN Youth chairman, said that the coalition’s win also proved the maturity of Sarawak voters, Utusan Malaysia reported today.

“I would like to thank the voters in Sarawak who have given the mandate and trust to BN to continue leading this state for another five years,” he was quoted as saying in the Malay daily.

“This also proves the effectiveness of the BN Youth’s strategy via the Youth fleet that moved in all corners of Sarawak to approach and win the heart of voters, especially the young voters.”

BN soared to an easy victory on May 7, bagging 72 of the 82 seats up for grabs.

Sarawak-based SUPP (Sarawak United People’s Party) won seven of the 13 seats it contested, an improvement from 2011 when it managed to win just six constituencies out of 19, losing many of its contested seats to the DAP.

PKR won three out of the 40 seats it contested while DAP only secured seven from the 31 seats, five seats fewer than the 12 it won in 2011. Amanah failed to secure a single seat.
