KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said a report on the collision involving two trains yesterday will be out in a week’s time.
Liow said the accident was a serious matter and thus the pilots of both trains have been suspended pending investigation.
“Train accident is a serious matter and it is very unlikely for accidents to occur that way because trains would usually stop if there’s an obstruction ahead.
“So we need to probe to see if these pilots had overridden the safety system,” he told a press conference at the Wisma MCA.
Liow said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has assembled a special team to probe the case.
At the moment, he said authorities were in the midst of clearing the train lane, adding that service at the accident area will resume as per normal tomorrow.
“But do expect some delays because there will only be one lane to use along that stretch for some time,” he said.
A 13-coach KTM Komuter travelling from Butterworth to Kuala Lumpur rammed into an Electric Train Service (ETS) train near Batang Kali, causing at least three casualties.
There were a total of 510 passengers on both trains.
