KUCHING, May 6 — A radio station fulfilled a request by Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem to donate RM200,000 to the Sarawak General Hospital yesterday.

Tea FM director Chia Chiew Boon said the money was raised during a dinner function to launch the radio station last year.

“We gave our chief minister a call and asked him whether he would want to sing for us at the radio station launch dinner,” said Chia.

“He agreed to sing but with the condition that the money raised during the dinner must be donated to a charitable organisation. We agreed and he performed three songs for us.”

Chia said this showed how far Adenan would go to help the people of Sarawak.

Hospital director Dr Chin Zin Hing received the mock cheque from the chief minister’s wife, Datuk Jamilah Anu. Also present were the wife and daughter of KTS Group managing director, Datin Wendy Lau and April Lau. Tea FM is a joint venture between KTS Group and Ancom subsidiary, Redberry Media Sdn Bhd.

“A big thank you to Tea FM, the chief minister and his wife for this huge donation. The chief minister and his wife have a big heart when it comes to caring for the people of Sarawak,” said Dr Chin.

The donation would be spent on equipment for 23 government hospitals in the state including 105 wheelchairs.

Jamilah said based on previous visits, she realised that hospitals across the state were in need of new wheelchairs.

“We look forward to more collaborations with Tea FM and a big thank you must go out to our chief minister for deciding that this money should be donated here,” she said.

“We look forward to do more charity for Sarawakians.”

Ancom Group managing director and Redberry Group chief executive officer, Datuk Siew Ka Wei, said Adenan had impressed the people of Sarawak with his kind act.

“He likes to sing and do charity work for various organisations and schools throughout the state. I am impressed with his work,” said Siew.

On November 27 last year, Adenan sang three golden oldies at a dinner to launch Tea FM, the state’s first Mandarin and English private radio station.

The songs were Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley, The Young Ones by Cliff Richard and Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino.
