JOHOR BARU, May 3 — The National Water Services Commission (Span) may implement water supply scheduling in some areas of Pasir Gudang and Johor Baru, if the water level at Sungai Layang Dam here continues to drop to its most critical level of 19.0 metres.
Span chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Ridhuan Ismail said the existing water level recorded at the dam was expected to be 19.55 metre and could only last two to three weeks from now.
“We hope it is not executed but people should start saving and use water in a rational manner for the benefit of all parties,” he told reporters after visiting the dam here today.
Until today, water supply scheduling is being carried out in two areas in Johor, namely in Mersing and Kota Tinggi.
Mohd Ridhuan said the measure was being carried out since April 18 and would end on May 15.
However, due to the hot weather, water supply scheduling was also extended as existing water resources in three locations, namely Sungai Mersing, Sungai Gembut and Congok Dam has surpassed the warning and critical levels of between 0.95 metre to 12.04 metre. — Bernama
