KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 ― A local company has launched a mobile application called iTeksi for taxi drivers amid the popularity of ride-sharing services that have hurt the cab industry.

Local daily Berita Harian reported today iTeksi Malaysia managing director Harvinder Gill as saying that only licensed drivers with proper documentation are allowed to be listed on the app to ensure the safety and comfort of their riders.

“Taxi drivers in the country are entangled with all sorts of negative perceptions following complaints by the public of drivers who cheat and those who did not give a good service.

“Following this, we came up with the idea to develop this application that is based on quality, discipline, honesty, accessibility and innovation so it can be an added value to the taxi industry,” he was quoted as saying.

Harvinder also reportedly said that passengers who were not happy with their ride can make a complaint within the application.

He said a total of 1,500 taxi drivers have been listed in the app to date.

According to the news report, the app is available for free in the Google Play and App Store.
