New Malaysian envoy presents credentials to Singapore president

SINGAPORE, April 28 — Datuk Ilango Karuppannan, Malaysia’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Singapore, today presented his credentials to President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana.

The High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore said in a statement that Ilango, who joined the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988, was the Undersecretary of the Europe Division in the Ministry from 2014 prior to his current appointment.

He had served as the Malaysian Ambassador to Lebanon from 2010 to 2014, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C. from 2006 to 2010 and Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Malaysia in Conakry, Guinea, from 1997 to 2001.

Ilango had also served as First Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Bonn, Germany, from 1994 to 1997.

He is married to Datin Nirmala Devi Mahadevan and they have two daughters. — Bernama
