KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 — Two men, charged separately with murder in a magistrate’s court in Selayang, yesterday alleged police brutality while in custody.

Lorry driver Satvender Singh, 30, who is accused of killing his wife and their seven-month-old daughter in Rawang, alleged he had suffered beatings during interrogation under remand.

His counsel, V. Sheelan Samuagam, told magistrate Iriane Isabelo that Satvender suffered chest pains and bruises all over his body from the beatings.

He requested for Satvender to undergo a medical examination and to make a police report. Isabelo said the matter should be taken up with prison authorities.

She fixed May 30 for re-mention of the case involving the murder of D. Kamaljit, 34, and her baby Ishlyn Kaur Sandhu at their house in Taman Rawang Perdana 2, between 3.55am and 4.15am on April 14.

No plea was recorded.

Technician Kumanesan Xavier, 36, who was charged with the murder of K. Uma Dewi, 34, claims he was subjected to beatings in police custody.

Counsel Haijan Omar told Isabelo: “My client was beaten and tortured by officers during interrogation, resulting in his ankles being bruised by shackles.”

Haijan also claimed Kumanesan’s essential items, such as his spectacles and asthma inhaler, were confiscated when he was remanded.

He also asked for Kumanesan to undergo a medical check-up and to make a police report but Isabelo reiterated prison authorities should decide on the request.

Kumanesan is accused of killing Uma Dewi in Jalan Gombak between 4am and 7am on April 6.

No plea was recorded and Isabelo set May 30 for re-mention.
