KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 ― Low cost carrier AirAsia is offering tickets as cheap as RM49 for Sarawakians flying back to vote in the upcoming state elections.

The airline's commercial chief Spencer Lee  said the promo titled 'Exercise Your Flight to Vote' would encourage more Sarawakians to go back and cast their ballots.

“We are pleased to offer all Sarawakians this special ‘Exercise Your Flight to Vote’ promotion for those who would want to return home to carry out their responsibilities to vote.

“With fares from as low as RM49* one-way, we hope that everyone will take advantage of this promotion and exercise their right to vote,” he said in a statement today.

Among the routes featured in the promotion are Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu to Kuching, and from Kuching to Miri, Bintulu and Sibu with all-in-fares (inclusive of taxes and fees) from as low as RM49 one-way.

AirAsia said ticket bookings are now open until May 8 and passengers can fly immediately.

The travelling period however will last until November 24.

The 11th Sarawak state elections is set to take place on May 7. Candidates were nominated statewide yesterday as Barisan Nasional (BN) hope to retain power.

This elections would see incumbent Tan Sri Adenan Satem contesting in his first polls as chief minister since taking over from Tun Taib Mahmud in 2014.

Among the other highlights include three-way fights between Barisan Nasional (BN), Pakatan Harapan and PAS.
