PETALING JAYA, April 25 — An assistant superintendent of police and his three accomplices were detained on Saturday for allegedly abducting and holding a man for ransom at Jalan Batu Bata in Kuala Lumpur.
In the 1.30am incident, policemen from the Dang Wangi station noticed a silver Proton Wira parked near a public toilet. Upon checking on the occupants, the 35-year-old victim told the policemen about his kidnapping.
The patrol officers subsequently found a pistol and a pair of handcuffs hidden under the front passenger seat.
A police source revealed the gang had demanded RM30,000 from the victim but settled for RM5,000 instead.
“The victim could only pay RM5,000, which was supposed to be transferred into his account by his friends and brother,” the source said.
The 35-year-old police officer was detained with his accomplices, aged between 22 and 38, while they were apparently waiting for the ransom money to be transferred into the victim’s account.
The victim claimed he had been accosted in front of a bank in Klang, Selangor, and shoved into the car and handcuffed.
He alleged the officer held him at gunpoint while an accomplice assaulted him as they drove to a restaurant near Jalan Hang Isap.
The victim was then taken to Jalan Batu Bata, where the police patrol team rescued him.
The suspects have been remanded until tomorrow.
