KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — Police seized enough chemicals to manufacture one million Ecstasy pills with a street value of RM50 million in a raid in Kepong on Wednesday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said the four-month-old laboratory, in a double-storey house, was capable of making 100,000 pills a day for distribution in the Klang Valley.

Police, who arrested a 51-year-old believed to have been running the operation, also found industrial machinery and precursors used for drug processing worth RM306,220.

With an average of 300 pills per oven tray, the suspect could have produced 3,000 pills in a single batch.

They also seized 364 iron mould stamps to place a “brand’’ on the pills and five bags of colouring material.

Abdul Samah said the raid followed a two-month stakeout by the state narcotics criminal investigations department officers.

“We believe the laboratory have been operating since January,” he said, adding that the suspect also ran a massage parlour in Gombak.

Abdul Samah said police had launched a manhunt for two more suspects.

The suspect, who has a previous conviction for theft, has been remanded until Wednesday.
