KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 — Three individuals were charged in separate courts around the country today on charges linked to terrorism. In Petaling Jaya, a student of a private institution of higher learning, Mohd Zaidi Hashim, 36, was charged in the Magistrate's Court for possession of materials linked to terrorist groups.
The offence was allegedly committed at 6-11A, Block D Pangsapuri Permai, Jalan Tropicana, Petaling Jaya, at 1.10 pm on March 24 this year.
In Temerloh, 31-year-old Muhammad Hanif Ismail was charged with a similar offence, made under Section 130 JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment for up to seven years, or fine, if convicted.
Muhammad Hanif, who is self-employed, was alleged to have committed the offence at a supermarket in Kuala Lumpur at 1.20 pm on March 24.
Meanwhile, in Sungai Siput, 22-year-old Mohamad Azmin Shah Sharifudin, also a self-employed, was charged with three counts linked to terrorism.
On the first count, he was charged under Section 130G of the Penal Code with promoting the commission of terrorist acts in Kampung Tersusun Salak Baru in June last year.
The second charge was for recruiting one Ahmed Shahir Johari as a member of a terrorist group at Perkarangan Hentian Sebelah Salak, in the village, in August last year.
The charge, under Section 130E of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to 30 years, and is liable to fine, if found guilty.
Mohamad Azmin Shah was also charged with possession of materials linked to terrorist groups in the same village at about 6.55 am last March 24.
No plea was recorded in all three cases, which had been fixed for mention on May 4, June 9 and May 25, respectively. — Bernama
