KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — Residents of Taman Rawang Perdana are frustrated over poor security in their neighbourhood following the double murder of a mother and daughter yesterday.
This is despite the residential area being a gated community with security guards manning the entrance.
A resident of four years said he was worried as the double murder happened quite near his house.
“I am now afraid that something like this may happen again as the security here is weak. The security guards are always distracted and play with their phones,” he added.
“While the guards are there, the barrier at the entrance is always raised. This allows people to drive in and out without going through any inspections.”
Checks by Malay Mail also revealed there were many entry and exit points that were not guarded.
The bodies of Kamaljit Dorairaja, 33, and her daughter Ishlyn Kaur, seven months, were discovered inside their house and are believed to have either been strangled or smothered to death.
A resident, who only wanted to be known as Preet, said when the residents’ association hired the security company, they were assured that its guards would constantly patrol the area
“However, I seldom see them do that. Following this incident I am really worried for my family’s safety,” said the housewife, who lives behind the victims’ house.
She said there had also been break-ins in the past two years.
“Since a residential area is being built nearby, we see a lot of the construction workers using paths from the site to go in and out of our area,” she said, adding that the residents pay RM45 every month for the security service.
Another resident said the victim’s husband was his good friend.
“The last I met them was at the Rawang Gurdwara for Vaisakhi celebration a day before. They seemed jovial and were happy to celebrate their first Vaisakhi with their daughter,” he added.
“I just can’t believe that they are dead. I can’t imagine what the mother and daughter had gone through. It is shocking and puzzling to us that such a horrific crime had taken place in our neighbourhood.”
He said the residents would meet to discuss how they could bring up the lax security to the security company and local council.
