KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 — Three men set a car on fire out of revenge in Jalan Tembeling, Titiwangsa.
It is learnt the car’s driver, aged 19, had gone to the house of one of the suspects and damaged his mother’s car last month.
The three men, armed with machetes and a fake gun, confronted the driver and his girlfriend, aged 18, in the car at about 5am last Wednesday.
The driver tried to reverse the car when their saw the trio approaching but the tyres got wedged in the road divider, forcing him and his girlfriend to get out and flee.
The three men used the machetes to smash the windscreen before setting the vehicle on fire with petrol.
Wangsa Maju police chief Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said police arrested six people, aged 16 to 33, in various locations including Ulu Kelang, Taman Melawati, Chow Kit and Titiwangsa on Thursday and Friday.
Two of the six were believed to be among those who set the car ablaze. The others included two women.
“Two of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said.
“The driver of the car and his father returned to the place where he left the car only to discover that it was completely burnt.”
Roy said two police officers on patrol duty saw the vehicle on fire and noticed a car with the three men speeding off.
“They tried to give chase but failed. However, they managed to take down the car’s registration number,” he said.
Roy said initial investigations revealed the incident was over a misunderstanding between one of the attackers and the driver last month when a car belonging to the attacker’s mother was damaged by the victim.
The suspects have been remanded until tomorrow.
