AMPANG, April 12 — Police shot dead three men believed to be Indonesians who were part of a notorious armed robbery gang that has been involved in more 26 robberies in Selangor, after a shoot-out at the abandoned Highland Tower this morning at 5am.

Selangor CID chief SAC Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the police received a tip-off and raided the first floor of the abandoned block C where six suspects were hiding.

Police first received a tip-off around 12.30am after reports of a group of suspicious individuals spotted in the area. Initial investigations showed that the suspects were looking for a possible target to rob in the neighbouring residential areas.

“The three suspects shot dead were in their 30’s and there were no personal identification documents found on them,” he said adding that the suspects were the first to open fire at police.

Mohd Adnan said one of the suspect had even attempted to attack one of the policemen with a parang.

A 50 men team from the General Operations Force (PGA) were seen entering the hills behind the tower at 11.45am.

Three other suspects escaped into the hills behind Highland Tower and a manhunt is ongoing for the suspects.

Police canine unit have been deployed to track the remaining suspects that fled.  A 50 men team from the General Operations Force (PGA) were seen entering the hills behind the tower at 11.45am to look for the suspects in hiding.

“We are not sure if the suspects at large are armed,” he said.
