Putrajaya moots ‘Special Chamber’ in Parliament to debate pressing issues

KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 — The government proposed today that the Dewan Rakyat set up a Special Chamber to debate urgent issues of public interest as part of its parliamentary reform efforts.

The proposal was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz, who also proposed two other amendments — shortening the period for submission of questions for Question Time to 10 days from 14, and to have a “Minister’s Question Time” to give MPs space to ask questions on important issues.

The slot for “Minister’s Question Time” would be on Tuesdays and Thursdays of the sitting, the proposal says.
