KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — Parti Amanah Negara’s (Amanah) Mohamed Hanipa Maidin had to be wheelchaired out of the Dewan Rakyat today after he fell unconscious and began frothing from the mouth.

The Sepang MP was motionless and was unable to get out of his seat during a Parliament recess around 5.30pm.

He had to be assisted by Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran and Klang MP Charles Santiago, who called in the Parliament doctor to assist him.

After finding him unconscious and unable to get up from his seat, Kulasegaran said they put him in a wheelchair and sent him to the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital.

“We had to literally carry him out of his chair and (he) was wheeled out on a wheelchair out of the Dewan. He was then brought to Hospital Kuala Lumpur,” he told reporters.

Kulasegaran declined to specify what was wrong with Hanipa , saying it was a “personal matter” and told reporters to consult the Parliament doctor instead.

Earlier in the day, Hanipa was among several MPs who were involved in a heated exchange with Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin while debating the amendments to the Companies Act.

Hanipa, who was from formerly from PAS, was part of the Islamist party’s so-called progressive faction which was wiped out in the last party election.

This led to him and a few others, including Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, to form Amanah and be part of the new opposition coalition, Pakatan Harapan.
