GEORGE TOWN, March 31 ― The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) inspected Lim Guan Eng's computer and relevant documents for its investigation into claims linking his house purchase to the sale of state land, state executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow revealed today.
The Penang DAP chairman said MACC officers spoke to the Penang chief minister two days ago.
“They have yet to record an official statement from him and will arrange to record his statement on another day,” he told reporters today.
Lim is currently under investigations for alleged corruption in the purchase of his RM2.8 million house, which critics linked to the sale of state land, Taman Manggis, through an open tender exercise back in 2010.
Two weeks ago, Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya claimed Lim bought his house for less than market price.
He linked Lim's purchase of the house to the state government's open tender sale of Taman Manggis to the Kuala Lumpur International Dental Centre (KLIDC) in 2010, alleging the land was also sold at below market value.
This had led to numerous MACC and police reports being lodged against Lim and the former house owner, Phang Li Koon.
There was also calls for Lim to take leave pending the MACC investigation into the case, but Chow has said there was no need for Lim to go on leave.
Lim also issued a statement pointing out that he had no influence and control over MACC investigations and the Attorney-General so there was no need for him to take leave.
He also insisted that the corruption reports against him by Barisan Nasional and their supporters are false and a conspiracy to destroy him politically.
